Air India Group Optimises Route Network
Air India announced the latest step in its progress optimisation of network following the full subsidiarization of Air Asia India in November 2022. In this current phase, three stations - Bhubaneswar (BBI), Bagdogra (IXB) and Surat (STV) , will now be served by Air Asia India, rather than Air India. Delhi- Visakhapatnam and Mumbai-Lucknow will be operated exclusively by Air India. Air India CEO & MD Mr. Campbell Wilson said, "The acquisition of Air Asia India, together with the ongoing restructuring and expansion of Air India, accords an unprecedented opportunity to optimise the Group's flight network. Specifically, it allows us to better match routes with the most appropriate airline business model, focusing the full-service airline on metro-metro markets and high connectivity routes, and the low-cost airline on more leisure oriented or price sensitive markets. This will improve our attractiveness to corporate travellers and leisure travellers alike, as well as improve connectivity between key domestic cities and Air India's fast expanding international network.”
AirAsia India Transfers operations to BLR Terminal 2
AirAsia India announced its re-location ofbase operations to the newly launched Terminal 2 (T2) at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) effective from 15th February for its 43 weekly flights . AirAsia India President Aloke Singh said, “As we continue to grow and expand, we are pleased to announce the relocation of our operations to the new Terminal 2 at our home base of Bengaluru. We share the ethos of T2, built on the premises of ‘sustainability’, ‘technology’, ‘innovation’ and ‘art’. The new terminal operations will serve as a catalyst for our Bengaluru operations, one of the largest with 43 daily departures.”
Akasa Air adds Varanasi as the 14th destination
Akasa Air announced the addition of its 14th destination Varanasi to its fast-growing network. The airline will operate non-stop daily flights between Varanasi and Bengaluru commencing 18th February 2023 with increased frequency on the route from 1st March. Akasa Air Chief Commercial Officer Praveen Iyer said, “We are delighted to strengthen our nation-wide connectivity and announce our second destination in Uttar Pradesh with Varanasi. This is the 14th destination on our fast-expanding network. The city is a popular cultural hub of India and a place of pilgrimage for many devotees.”
IndiGo strengthens domestic connectivity with addition of Nasik as 77th destination
IndiGo announced Nasik as its 77th domestic and 103rd overall station in the 6E network. The airline will operate the first direct flights between Nasik-Goa, Nasik-Ahmedabad and Nasik-Nagpur, effective from 15 March. Nasik will be the 7th destination on the carrier’s route network in Maharashtra state. IndiGo Head of Global Sales Vinay Malhotra said, “We are pleased to announce Nasik as our 77th destination in the 6E network. The new direct connections will enhance accessibility, while promoting trade, tourism, and mobility. Nasik will now be connected to multiple domestic and international destinations through the 6E network. Nasik is well-known for its historical and cultural significance. Therefore, the addition of direct flights in the summer schedule will provide more options for the tourists who wish to visit Nasik
