Bombardier C Series Aircraft Analysis

In the ninth of our Thought Leadership series John Whitty Director – Technical Acumen Aviation discusses the Bombardier C Series Aircraft. This week Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) commenced Bombardier CS100 Series operations on its Geneva to Dublin route. The Bombardier C Series consists of two types the CS100  and the CS300 is a family of narrow body twin engine medium range jet airliners built by  Bombardier Aerospace  in Canada , with the wings and part of the fuselage being manufactured in Ireland and the rest in Montreal Canada . The Program costs was so high at $5,5 billion  that the company was in  danger being taken over by its rivals , since the first flight for the CS100  in 2013  the first customer  was Swiss Global Air Lines  on the 15^th July 2016 and the 130- 160  seater CS300  first flew on the 27^th February  2015 and it received type certification in July last year and entered service  on the 14^th December 2016 with Air Baltic. During  the development program  one of the Test Aircraft  suffered uncontained engine failure in May 2014 , which was later attributed  to a lubrication problem on the Pratt and Whitney PW 1500G engine . In October 2015 Airbus turned down a Bombardier offer to sell  a majority share of the C series to them and in the  same month they took a  $3.2 billion write down and the government invested $1 billion to save the company program . In  April 2016  the government offered another aid package. To date there has been 360 firm orders and 10 delivered. Acumen Aviation © 13 April All Rights Reserved.
