Air China looks to domestic growth for pick-up after modest third quarter Air China released its 2021 third quarter earnings revealing 7% growth in capacity measured in available seat kilometre’s (ASK). The airline is still committed to expanding its network within China as wide-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 XWB, are being put to use on routes in-and-out of second-tier cities throughout Chins, such as Changsha, China, Kunming, China, and Harbin .The airline said in its 2020 annual report that “Air China will closely align follow the national development strategy, and better serve the market with an extensive network and top service.” China's civil aviation achieves progress in reducing emissions China's civil aviation industry has achieved significant progress in energy-saving and emission reduction work, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). As of the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), the fuel efficiency of China's civil aviation industry had increased around 30 percent compared with that in 2000, resulting in the reduction of 360 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, showed data from the CAAC. EDGE, China’s CATIC open first regional distribution hub for aircraft logistics EDGE Group entity GAL announced the opening of the first regional distribution hub for aircraft logistics in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Chinese state-backed defence contractor, China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC). The new Middle East & Africa Distribution Center (MEADC) will significantly improve the availability of aircraft spare parts in the UAE and the wider MENA region. Greater Bay Airlines Appoints CASL as Ground Handling Agent China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL) announced that it has been selected by Greater Bay Airlines Company Limited, as its line maintenance and ground handling services company at Hong Kong International Airport for its entire fleet. Greater Bay Airlines CEO Algernon Yau said “We are pleased to appoint China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL) to be our service provider for line maintenance and ground handling services. CASL could support our rapid implementation requirements and the growth of the airline.” Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines sign new Memorandum of Understanding Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) confirming a significant expansion of the existing codeshare agreement. As part of the collaboration, all future flights between China and Qatar will be codeshared, allowing passengers to benefit from seamless connecting flights. The closer cooperation will also provide greater customer benefits, including increased joint lounge access and a soon-to-be confirmed enhanced frequent flyer agreement. In addition, the two airlines agreed to support the growth of Beijing’s Daxing International Airport, into a leading international aviation hub for both passenger and cargo services. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said “This is the latest chapter in the story of our airline’s continued journey to provide an enhanced and seamless customer experience for passengers travelling via our two hubs of Hamad International Airport, the new Beijing Daxing International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport”.
