China's Aviation Authority to Cap Inbound Flights China civil aviation authorities will cap the number of inbound flights to the country in a bid to tighten the control of imported cases of novel coronavirus. According to a notice issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China on Friday, all Chinese and overseas airlines will be required to maintain their current level of international flights or cut them back, based on this week's flight plans for March 16 to March 22. It also requires airlines that have approval for flight plans, to make advance applications to the administration's operations and monitoring center. This week's flight plan shows that 2,072 inbound round trips are expected to be made from 52 countries, with 1,165 passenger flights and 907 cargo trips. China Southern to Resume Set of International Flights China Southern Airlines plans to resume international flights on a phased basis with demand to Australia and New Zealand becoming robust. Those from Guangzhou to Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide in Australia and Christchurch in New Zealand, and those from Shenzhen, Guangdong province to Sydney and Melbourne are planned to return in June. Flights from Guangzhou to Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland will be increased in June. International cargo flights by China Southern will surpass 250 in March. Etihad flights to Beijing to operate with temporary stop to Xi’an Effective from Sunday 22 March, Etihad Airways services to Beijing will stop in the city of Xi’an, where passengers will disembark for health screening, customs clearance, and to claim their baggage. This procedure is likely to be lengthy. Once cleared by the local authorities for entry into China, passengers will re-board and baggage will be reloaded for the short flight to Beijing. This directive does not affect the return schedule from Beijing to Abu Dhabi. Some Inbound Beijing Capital Intl Flights to Be Diverted Beijing will redirect some inbound flights scheduled to land at its Beijing Capital International Airport to other airports in nearby cities based on changes in the epidemic situation, in a bid to ease the mounting pressure on the city that is seeing an increasing number of imported cases of the novel coronavirus.
