Read more here China's airlines see a fragile recovery with more people flying China's aviation regulator said daily transported air passenger numbers rose 7.9% this month, as of April 21, from March, but was only at 29% of the level seen a year ago, signalling that the sector's recovery was still fragile. The country's number of daily flights rose by only 1% in April to 6,586, amounting to just 42 percent of daily flights before the coronavirus struck, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said. China expects record tourist numbers on Labour Day China's hard-hit tourism sector is expecting a gradual recovery and the upcoming Labour Day holiday is expected to see a record number of over 80 million tourists as people try to return to normality after the recent Covid-19 lockdowns. The five-day holiday starting on 1st will be the first "mini peak season" this year, according to report by Trip.com Group. China’s airlines are poised for a bout of “revenge travelling” in coming weeks, as soaring reservations ahead of the annual Labour Day holiday helped them recover 40% of their traffic. Shanghai, Hainan Airports Earn 5 Stars from Intl Rating Agency Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Haikou Meilan International Airport both achieved a five-star standard in China, while Beijing Daxing International Airport, as well as another nine airports, received four stars, according to the 2020 Airport Rating by Skytrax, the London-based research agency in the air transport industry. The evaluations were conducted from June 2019 to January 2020, covering 103 Chinese airports across a wide range, from small domestic airports to major international hubs. Apart from the top two five-star airports in Shanghai and Haikou, Terminal 2 at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is also in their league, being ranked as a five-star terminal. Skytrax predicted that another two to three airports in China will likely reach the five-star standard by 2021. Tibet Airlines to Increase Domestic Routes Tibet Airlines will launch 18 new air routes on May 3 to provide more convenient travel services to Tibet autonomous region, Tibet Daily reported. Among the new routes are flights connecting Lhasa, the regional capital, with cities around China, such as Kunming, Mianyang, Shamen, Dali, Fuzhou, and Jiuzhaigou. For the convenience of people traveling from Tibet to other provinces, the airline has added one new flight to the previous two between Lhasa and Chengdu, Sichuan province.
