ATR Surveys Growth Prospects in China ATR has reflected on its mixed fortunes in 2018, while highlighting that the Franco-Italian company still dominates its market segment it continues to work on China as an emerging prospect given its airlines fly fewer than 100 regional aircraft during a time of heavy investment in regional airports. “Our next project for us is to tap into markets that are not fully exploited,” ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli told a press conference in Paris. “We did a demo tour in China, for example landing at Shangri’La Airport with a 42-600. So the goal is to certify the 42-600 in China in 2019.” CALC Named “Aircraft Lessor of the Year” for Fourth Consecutive Year CALC announced 1 February that it was named “Aircraft Lessor of the Year 2018” at the Global Transport Finance 2018 Annual Awards Ceremony held in London on 31 January. This is the fourth consecutive year that CALC has granted the international recognition. CALC executed several iconic and innovative deals in 2018, all of which strengthened the Group’s position as one of the leading players in the global aviation industry. China to become world’s largest aviation market by 2025 China’s commercial aviation market will see passenger volume rise to 1.6 billion by 2037, according to the latest forecast released by the International Air Transport Association. China is currently the world’s second largest aviation market and according to the latest IATA forecast it should become the world’s largest by 2025. Commenting on the forecast, IATA’s director general and CEO, Alexandre de Juniac said: “China is becoming the key influencer of global civil aviation industry. And China’s civil aviation authorities is key dynamic force in powering global civil aviation industry.” Chongqing Airlines sees aircraft leasing as a way to scale up expansion In an interview with CGTN Peng Juzhen, Chairman of Chongqing Airlines, said the Chongqing Pilot Free Trade Zone has provided the airline with an impetus to consider aircraft leasing as a means to finance aircraft. “In the medium to long term, we may need up to 200 aircraft – from our current fleet of over 20 – if we wish to achieve our goal of being the flagship airline at Chongqing Jiangbei International airport.” Emirates and China Southern Airlines Sign Codeshare Partnership Emirates and China Southern Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to progress a comprehensive reciprocal codeshare agreement, which is set to open up new destinations for passengers traveling between China and the Middle East and Africa. The partnership with the Guangzhou-based carrier also allows Emirates’ passengers to enjoy seamless connectivity on domestic flights within China, adding eight new destinations to its global network. The Chinese cities covered by the codeshare agreement include Fuzhou, Chongqing, Kunming, Qingdao, Xiamen, Chengdu, Nanjing and Xi ‘an during the initial phase of the partnership, subject to necessary government approvals. Estonian company enters the Chinese aircraft cabin interiors market MAC Aero Interiors, the commercial aircraft cabin interiors arm of Estonian maintenance provider Magnetic MRO, is entering the Chinese aircraft cabin interiors market with the establishment of a joint venture with Benniao Aviation. The newly launched MAC Sichuan will provide cabin technical care support to aircraft owners and operators in China. The new company will provide design, engineering, refurbishment, maintenance and modification of aircraft cabins, as well as manufacturing and installations of cabin components IATA helps China move paperless Fast Travel beyond domestic flights With a strong demand for self-service process among international passengers in China, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has successfully piloted a paperless Fast Travel process. IATA collaborating with China’s Civil Aviation Administration, and following the rapid growth in the number of passengers on those international flights, IATA Beijing Office have trialed a Fast Travel process with Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) and Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) Pudong Station.
