China Eastern Airlines to connect Marseille and Shanghai
Cathay Cargo congratulates Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on being named world’s busiest cargo airport
Cathay Cargo congratulated Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for being named the world's busiest cargo airport in 2023, according to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI). As the city's home carrier for 77 years and the largest cargo operator at HKIA. The carrier Cathay operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 747 freighter aircraft and also carries cargo in the bellies of the Cathay Group’s more than 190 passenger aircraft. In 2023 announced the purchase of six Airbus A350F freighters and secured the right to acquire 20 additional aircraft. Cathay’s Director Cargo Tom Owen said “Hong Kong once again being named number one in the world for air cargo is a testament to the resilience, innovation and collaboration of the Hong Kong air cargo community. With its world-leading infrastructure, expertise and capabilities, supported by the increased development of intermodal connectivity within the Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong continues to be at the forefront of the global air cargo industry.”
China Eastern Airlines to connect Marseille and Shanghai
China Eastern Airlines is to launch a new route between its Shanghai base and Marseille commencing 2 July operating three times weekly using two class Boeing 787-9 aircraft operated by China Eastern’s subsidiary carrier Shanghai Airlines. The launch of the Shanghai-Marseille flight will establish the first direct air corridor between this pair of sister cities. Shanghai, located in east China and the estuary of the Yangtze River, and opening to the Pacific Ocean, Shanghai is one of the most economically vibrant, open, and innovative cities in China.

Hong Kong retains status as world’s busiest air cargo hub
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has retained its status as the world’s busiest air-cargo hub by tonnage, as cited in the Airports Council International (ACI) rankings for 2023.Last year HKIA handled 4.3 million tonnes of cargo Cathay Cargo was the biggest contributor, accounting for 1.4 million tonnes, up 20% up on 2022.
