American Airlines Orders 180 CF34 Engines
GE Aerospace announced that American Airlines has finalized an order for 180 CF34-8E engines plus spares to power its fleet of 90 new Embraer 175 aircraft. The CF34 engine line, which includes -3, -8, and -10 models, powers more than 2,500 regional commercial aircraft. American Airlines CFO Devon May, said “The reliability and performance of the CF34 engine has been critical to our success for many years. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with GE Aerospace as we invest in modernizing and strengthening our domestic and regional fleet.”
De Havilland Aircraft Announces DHC-8 Roadmap
De Havilland Aircraft of Canada announced the rollout of a new DHC-8 roadmap on accumulating over 46 million flight cycles of experience in operations globally. With new DHC production facilities at De Havilland Field near Calgary, Alberta coming on stream in the latter portion of the decade, the time is right to determine what operators are looking for in their future fleet planning. De Havilland Canada assembled a Product Strategy Council meeting with global operators to determine the roadmap for the Dash 8 program strategy. The OEM is committed to enhancing the platform through in-service support and new features such as cargo conversion upgrades, cabin enhancements, avionics upgrades, our ESP+ life extension program, and our OEM Certified Refurbishment Program.
GE Aerospace to Invest $1 Billion in MRO Facilities
GE Aerospace announced plans to invest more than $1 billion over five years in its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and component repair facilities worldwide. These investments will help GE Aerospace create capacity to meet growth in both the widebody and narrowbody installed base by adding additional engine test cells and equipment. The funding also will add cutting-edge technology, including enhanced inspection techniques, to reduce turnaround times for customers as well as expand component repair capability within its overhaul shops. GE Aerospace President and CEO, Commercial Engines and Services, Russell Stokes said, “Our customers are experiencing strong air travel demand, and we are investing to increase our capacity and efficiency so we can meet their growing needs and keep their planes flying safely and reliably. With this major investment, we are reinforcing our longstanding focus on safety, quality, and delivery for our customers and the flying public.”
National Airlines Selects Boeing 777 Freighters
National Airlines announced the carrier has committed to place its first order for four Boeing 777 Freighters. The 777 Freighters will join National Airline's expanding fleet of nine 747-400 freighters. National Airlines Chairman Christopher Alf, said "We are elated by this remarkable order of four Boeing 777 Freighters. This demonstrates our commitment to offering efficient, resourceful, and modern air freight services to support our global customers' increasing transportation demands. The order affirms our fleet growth plan as we enter into the next chapter of National. We sincerely appreciate the support by Boeing and all its associated teams in this journey ahead."
