IATA: India global leader in domestic air traffic growth
India was the fastest growing domestic market in the world according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the 22nd month in a row.
Air traffic in India increased by 26.6% year-on-year in January, which was also the 15th consecutive month to record 20%-plus annual growth.
“Demand is being stimulated by strong flight frequency” added IATA.
India has very strong growth prospects as evident with Qatar Airways announcement on 8 March plans to set up an new airline based in India with 100 narrow-body aircraft to tap into one of the world’s fastest growing markets.
IndiGo is seeking to convert Airbus A320NEO’s on order to larger A321NEO to allow it open more longer range routes carrying more passengers.
New regional carrier Zoom Air commenced operations on 22 February using Candair CRJ200s.
