AAR Announces Joint Venture with Indamer for New MRO Facility in India AAR announced a joint venture with Indamer Aviation, a leading aviation company in India, for the development of a new airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Nagpur, India. The new MRO facility, which is already under construction, will initially be comprised of six narrow-body bays, including one bay for paint. Additional phases are planned for a total of 16 bays, as well as component repair shops. The MRO will serve India's fast-growing commercial aviation market and is scheduled to open in the fall with FAA, EASA and DGCA certifications. Emirates expands influence in India The Emirates Group, and its affiliated entities including flydubai, signed a Memorandum of Understanding last week with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board to collaborate in various aviation areas to support and invest in the Indian state. Under the terms of the MoU, the Emirates Group and the State of Andhra Pradesh will share industry expertise and identifying development and investment opportunities. In the media statement, Emirates Group said it was committed to future investment and expansion in support of India’s 2020 goal to be the world’s third largest aviation market. IndiGo Says Has Made 69 Pratt Engine Replacements in 18 Months IndiGo, the world’s biggest buyer of the Airbus A320neo, was forced to replace faulty Pratt & Whitney engines that power the jetliners in 69 cases over the last 18 months according to Bloomberg. The figure indicates a three-fold increase in the number of air travellers which was 265 million in 2016-2017. In the Budget announcement last week, the government had proposed to enhance airport capacity to more than five times to handle a billion trips a year under a new initiative -- NABH (NextGen Airports for Bharat). Number of Indians holidaying abroad to treble by 2025: report The number of Indians holidaying abroad is likely to treble by 2025 and may account for 40 per cent of the international air trips from the country, according to an aviation think-tank report. The growth in vacations in foreign countries will be driven by tourists from tier-2 Indian cities as well as an increase in budget carriers flying on international routes, the report jointly prepared by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation and Expedia group said. Singapore Airlines looking at operating more flights from India Singapore Airlines is upbeat on Indian operations as it mulls the possibility of more flights from the country. According to David Lim, General Manager India, the airline already has 98 flights a week from 11 destinations in the country. And, plans are now afoot to have more in the coming days. The 11 destinations from where Singapore Airlines and Silk Air – its sister concern – currently have services are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Kochi, Vizag, Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad.
