Bengaluru airport readies new terminal as Indian air travel explodes Bengaluru's international airport is expecting passenger traffic to surge nearly 70 percent in an expansion over the next two years as multinational companies pour money into the city known as the Silicon Valley of India. Airport authorities annnounced plans for nearly a $2 billion investment that will add a new terminal and a second runway, boosting the airport's capacity to 45 million passengers per year. India Delays GAGAN Avionics Mandate to June 2020 India’s civil aviation regulatory agency is postposing the requirement for aircraft registered in India to be equipped with GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation system (GAGAN) compatible avionics. GAGAN is a satellite based augmentation system (SBAS) designed to enable aircraft to fly precision approaches with vertical guidance to airfields with charted approaches. India’s ministry of civil aviation mandated GAGAN equipage by Jan. 1, 2019 in June 2016 and has now moved the deadline to June 30, 2020. Indonesia woos Indian airlines to boost bilateral trade Hindustan Times reported 13 January that Indonesia is keen on Indian carriers starting flights to the country and renewing their air services agreement as part of efforts to boost bilateral trade and commercial relations. Malaysia Airlines reinstates flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kochi Malaysia Airlines Bhd, which is undergoing a turnaround plan, has reinstated daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kochi commencing 31 March. In a statement today, the airline's group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said reintroducing flights to the Kerala city made "business sense" given that there is now increased demand. Qatar Airways official airline partner for the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019 Qatar Airways is the Official Airline Partner for the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019, marking the beginning of a year-long collaboration. The programme developed by Qatar Museums, the Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019 will invite audiences in both Qatar and India to explore their cultural heritage through an exciting array of programmes, including a variety of Qatari-Indian exhibitions, musical performances, fashion, film and artistic events.
