APFTA expands their operations to establish a Flight Training Organization at Kalaburagi Airport Asia Pacific Flight Training Academy (APFTA) Limited has recently entered into an agreement with Airport Authority of India (AAI) for establishing a Flight Training Organization (FTO) on Design, Build, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (DBOMT) basis at Kalaburagi Airport in Karnataka for 25 years. India is expected to be the third largest Aviation market in the world by 2025 and there is a huge requirement for well-trained pilots in India. ‘Aircraft leasing at GIFT City can change the way India travels’ The aircraft leasing platform enabled by the government and the International Financial Services Centres Authority opens up opportunities in the civil aviation sector and has the potential to change the way India travels, IFSCA general manager Ashutosh Sharma has said. In 2019, the civil aviation ministry had identified the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in GIFT City, Gujarat, for developing the aircraft leasing and financing ecosystem in the country. India’s first pod taxi to operate between Jewar Airport and Noida Film City Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Ltd (IPRCL) has prepared a final draft for the DPR for the 14 km taxi pod line and has submitted it to the Yamuna Authority. This will be India’s first pod taxi service. Instrument Landing System commissioned at Jharsuguda airport The all-weather instrument landing system (ILS) has been commissioned at the Jharsuguda airport in Odisha, an official said. The ILS is a precision-based approach that will provide pilots both vertical and horizontal guidance during landing, the Veer Surendra Sai Airport director said. The Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda district has been developed by the Airports Authority of India in collaboration with the Odisha government at an estimated cost of Rs 210 crore, with Rs 75 crore contribution from the state. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to be under Adani Group’s management The Adani Group announced that it has taken over the management of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from the GVK group. Post the stake purchase transaction, Adani Group will have 74% stake in Mumbai Airport with 50.5% being bought from GVK Group and 23.5% bought from minority partners including Airports Company South Africa and Bidvest Group. In a statement, Adani said that the company’s larger objective is to re-invent airports as ecosystems that drive local economic development as well as act as the nuclei around which it can catalyse aviation-linked businesses. Vijayawada International Airport's extended runway becomes operational The extended runway at Vijayawada International Airport (VIA) became operational last week. Air India flight No. AI459 from New Delhi was the first flight to land the extended runway on Thursday 15th July. The total length of the runway is now 3,360 metre, which could facilitate landing and take off of aircraft such as Boeing 737, 747 and Airbus A330.  VIA is the largest airport in the State with a runway capable of handling Code-E type aircraft.
