Economic contribution of travel and tourism in India to double
World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) announced forecasts of Travel and Tourism industry in India. WTTC says India will add around 10 million jobs in the Travel & Tourism sector by 2028. India is currently the seventh largest Travel & Tourism economy in the world. Overall, the total contribution of the sector to the economy was INR15.2 trillion (US$234 billion) in 2017, or 9.4% of the economy once its direct, indirect and induced benefits are taken into account. This is forecast to more than double to INR32 trillion (US$492 billion) by 2028.
Expanded Component Maintenance for Jet Airways Fleet
Lufthansa Technik AG and Jet Airways have expanded their cooperation. Representatives of both companies signed a Total Component Maintenance (TCM) contract for Jet Airways fleet of 80 Boeing 737NG, with single components repaired in a closed-loop and flat rate-based process.
India’s newest airport turns to SITA for passenger processing solutions
The Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) has turned to SITA to provide passenger processing solutions for check-in and boarding, as well as baggage tracking. The airport is deploying SITA’s common-use technology, enabling airlines and their handling agents to access their IT applications in real-time on shared common-use equipment. SITA’s Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) and Common Use Self Service (CUSS) allows any airline to use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk for passenger check-in and bag drop.
Jet Airways announces plans to make Guwahati its regional gateway
Jet Airways announced its plans to expand its presence in the North East and make Guwahati its regional gateway to/ from the region. The initiative forms a part of Jet Airways’ strategy to further strengthen its domestic footprint of 45 cities in the country, complementing its three hubs at Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
SITA to enable fully biometric air travels in India using Aadhaar
In a move aimed to fructify the government’s concept of “Digiyatra” at Indian airports, air transport IT and communications service provider SITA is all set to help India lead the way in fully biometric air travel. The paperless travel experience for passengers will be delivered across India leveraging Aadhaar to create the world’s most efficient travel system.
Vistara Posts Over 95% Passenger Load Factor In February
Vistara reported a record 95% load factor in its economy class during February 2018, according to a press release issued by the carrier. Vistara also logged its highest-ever passenger load factor (PLF or occupancy) of 91.2% in the month, as per the DGCA monthly report.
