Bangkok Airways and Jet Airways expand codeshare deal
Bangkok Airways has expanded an existing codeshare agreement with Indian carrier Jet Airways to provide additional benefits to their customers travelling between major destinations across Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and India. As part of the new deal, Jet Airways will place its marketing code on Bangkok Airways’ flights beyond Bangkok to some other places in Thailand, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, KohSamui, Krabi, Phuket, Sukhothai and Trat in, as well as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Da Nang, Phu Quoc in Vietnam. Bangkok Airways will place its marketing code on Jet Airways’ flights beyond Mumbai and Delhi to some of the major Indian destinations, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Goa, and Chennai.
Bangalore airport second fastest growing airport in world in terms of passengers
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has emerged as the second fastest growing airport in the world in the first half of 2018 in terms of actual growth in passengers. It has recorded 1,58,50,352 flyers during the six-month period, with an addition of 41,80,852 passengers over the corresponding period last year.
Indian Aviation Sees Strong Passenger Growth In Seasonally Weak Month Of July
Airline passenger traffic in India, the world’s fastest growing aviation market, jumped in a seasonally weak month of July on capacity addition and lower fares. The number of passengers rose 21 percent on a yearly basis to nearly 1.16 crore in the month, according to data released by Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Growth in July travel was better than the holiday month of May.
Lufthansa Group launches new NDC partner programme in India
Lufthansa, recently launched a new website to facilitate travel agencies and travel technology providers in India with its New Distribution Capability (NDC) partner programme. NDC is a travel industry supported programme, launched by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard. This enhances the capability of communications between airlines and travel agents.
Rapid in margins for Indian Airlines unlikely: Fitch
Profitability for Indian airlines is unlikely to recover materially in the near term as new aircraft deliveries will continue to exert pressure on fares, which airlines have not been able to rise to keep pace with cost increases because of fierce competition, Fitch Ratings says. However, we believe industry margins in H118 appear close to bottom as the weak financial profiles of some airlines are likely to force them to review their operating strategies.
SpiceJet launches new in-flight entertainment service
SpiceJet is looking to separate itself from regional competitors by launching what it says is the first free in-flight entertainment system to be offered by a budget Indian carrier. The complimentary service, called "SpicEngage", is available now on all of the company's domestic and international flights, offering connectivity via passengers' own handheld devices.
SpiceJet to fly India's first biofuel-powered flight, between Dehradun and Delhi
SpiceJet will today fly India's first biofuel-powered flight from Dehradun to Delhi on a Bombardier DHC8-Q400 aircraft. The fuel has been developed by Indian Institute of Petroleum, based in the capital of Uttarakhand. The low-cost carrier will use a blend of the aviation turbine fuel and biofuel to power the flight.
