Air France launches Paris-Chennai direct flight Air France Airlines launched direct flight services between Paris and Chennai. The inaugural flight, a 276-seater three-class configured Boeing 787-9 aircraft effective from Sunday 27th June. Initially the flight will operate weekly in view of the restrictions imposed by the Indian government due to COVID pandemic. Bengaluru’s Jakkur aerodrome to host heli-tourism The Karnataka Tourism Department has received approvals from the Youth and Sports Services department and Airport Authority of India (AII) to use Jakkur aerodrome and five other airstrips for heli-tourism purposes. Tourism Minister C P Yogeshwar stated “Jakkur will be used for landing and take-off purposes. A circuit will be prepared for tourists to take helicopters to Goa, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala. The heli-tourism services can be even used by VVIPs and for emergency services.” Cochin international airport wins ACI's roll of excellence honour Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has been awarded Airport Council International’s (ACI) Director General’s Roll of Excellence honour in airport service quality (ASQ). The ACI, a global body of airport operators, instituted the Roll of Excellence honour to recognise those airports that have consistently delivered excellence in customer service by winning multiple ASQ awards over a five-year period during the past 10 years. The decision is made based on the opinion of passengers collected through an AQS survey held by ACI. Modi govt plans over 100 routes for seaplane services The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of seaplane services, calling it a “game-changer”. The move aims to enhance seamless connectivity and give a boost to the tourism sector. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called the latest move a “big fillip to the provision of a new kind of tourism service in India”. SpiceXpress, Delhivery to start commercial drone delivery pilot project in 3-4 months SpiceXpress, is one of the key consortiums shortlisted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct trials on Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drones in India. SpiceXpress along with e-commerce logistics platform Delhivery will build drone delivery capability in the country and the pilot project is expected to start in the next 3-4 months. The technology will be tested for numerous commercial applications such as emergency services, delivery of goods, critical medical services, and environmental monitoring. Delhivery will provide the necessary on-ground support to ensure speedy and reliable first-mile and last-mile logistics. UDAN connectivity in Northeastern region expands further Flybig last week commenced new routes connecting Guwahati and Dibrugarh under the Regional Connectivity Scheme-Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (RCS-UDAN) further expanding connectivity in the Northeastern region of India.
