AAI to embark on study to assess capacity at 48 airports With the rise in demand for air travel in the country expected to choke several key airports over the next few years, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is set to embark on a study to assess the capacity at 48 of its airports. Air India arm plans MRO unit in Muscat Air India’s subsidiary Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) has firmed up plans to open a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit in Muscat, Oman, from where it expects to generate labour revenue of at least $500,000 per annum, tender documents issued by the company showed. The Muscat MRO will be a part of AIESL’s overseas expansion plan under which it first opened an international branch in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Air India marks 70 years since 1st India-UK flight Air India is marking 70 years since its first flight took off from Mumbai to London in June 1948, which laid the foundations of the India-UK relationship. The national carrier is inviting members of the Indian diaspora in Britain to share their memories of the airline in its early days. The iconic first flight, on a Super Constellation aircraft, took off from Mumbai on June 8 and landed in London via Cairo and Geneva on June 10, 1948, with just 42 passengers on board, including some Indian 'Nawabs' (noblemen) and 'Maharajas' (kings). Airport Common Use Service (ACUS) launches at India airports The launch of Amadeus Airport Common Use Service (ACUS) will mean airports in India can offer a futuristic, more efficient, and convenient check-in service as the number of international and domestic travelers increases. With ACUS, travelers can check in for flights at their hotels or at your congress centers before leaving for the airport. Indian airlines record double-digit annual growth reports IATA India's domestic air passenger traffic grew by 26.4 percent year on year, global aviation body, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said. The IATA said India continued to witness double-digit growth for the 44th consecutive month. “India’s airlines recorded double-digit annual growth (26.4%) for the 44th consecutive month, with passenger demand continuing to be supported by a combination of strong economic and network expansion,” India urges global planemakers to 'Make in India' India wants to encourage aircraft makers to manufacture in the country, starting with components and moving eventually to complete aircraft stated Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu. In a series of messages on Twitter, Prabhu appealed to Airbus and Boeing to participate in the push as part of the government's flagship "Make In India" campaign, highlighting the growth potential of the booming market, which has been adding passengers and cutting fares. Jackson Square Aviation Ireland to Lease Six New Boeing 737 Max 8 Aircraft to Jet Airways Jackson Square Aviation Ireland (JSAI) announced 30 May its first sale and leaseback transaction with Jet Airways (India) Limited for six new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with deliveries commencing in 2019.
