AerCap Leased, Purchased and Sold 53 Aircraft in the First Quarter 2020
AerCap announced its major business transactions during 2020Q1. The lessor signed lease agreements for 28 aircraft, including ten wide-body aircraft and 18 narrow-body aircraft and purchased seven aircraft, including five Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, one Boeing 787-9 and one Embraer E2 aircraft. AerCap executed sale transactions for 18 aircraft, including five Airbus A320 Family aircraft, six Boeing 737NGs and one Boeing 747 aircraft from its owned portfolio and one Airbus A320 Family aircraft, two Airbus A330s, two Boeing B777-200ERs and one Boeing B777-300ER aircraft from its managed portfolio. AirCap is continuing to manage five aircraft that were sold from its owned portfolio during the quarter.
CSO Press Statement Aircraft Leasing in Ireland 2018
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) today (3 April 2020) published Aircraft Leasing in Ireland 2018, which examines Ireland’s aircraft leasing sector, its development and trends in employment. Commenting on the publication, Senior Statistician, Christopher Sibley, said:
“Aircraft Leasing in Ireland 2018 shows the significant growth this sector has experienced. This is the second time we have published this analysis of the aircraft leasing sector. The 2018 publication includes additional research on employment, gender and earnings in the aircraft leasing sector, making use of administrative data sources to indicate trends in employment across the sector.
The publication shows that:
- Between 2009 and 2018 the assets of the aircraft leasing sector rose by €96.9 billion, from €43.2 billion in 2009 to €140.1 billion in 2018.
- Income increased by €12.5 billion, from €5.4 billion in 2009 to €17.9 billion in 2018;
- The increase in income was primarily driven by increases in operational lease income (€15.2 billion in 2018);
- Over the 10-year period examined, China and the United States accounted for 11.2% and 9.1% of all operational leasing income respectively
SMBC Aviation Capital announces appointment of new Chairman
SMBC Aviation Capital announced the appointment of Tomoyuki (Tom) Tanaka as the new Chairman of the Board. Mr. Tanaka formerly served as Deputy Head of the Transportation Business Unit for SMBC Aviation Capital’s shareholder Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) in Tokyo. Mr. Tanaka will replace Mr. Shinichi Hayashida, who has served as Chairman since May 2012. Peter Barrett, Chief Executive Officer, SMBC Aviation Capital said, “Tom brings deep industry and commercial insights and we look forward to his counsel and input particularly during this challenging time for the industry and for our next phase of development as we emerge from this period. His appointment highlights the ongoing, close and supportive relationship we have with our shareholders which is crucial at this time. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank and give our deep appreciation to our outgoing Chairman, Shinichi Hayashida for his valuable contribution during his tenure.”
