Air Canada Announces Ratification of New 10-Year Collective Agreement by US Employees Air Canada announced 16 October it had been advised by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), the union representing the airline's 700 US-based employees, that its members have ratified a new 10-year collective agreement reached July 17, 2019. The new agreement is in effect until 2029. Air Lease Corporation Announces Lease Placement of Six New Airbus A321neo Aircraft with China Airlines Air Lease Corporation announced 24 October long-term lease agreements with China Airlines (Taiwan) for six new Airbus A321neo aircraft.The aircraft will deliver to the airline beginning in 2021 through 2022 from ALC’s order book with Airbus. "We are honored to have been chosen by China Airlines to provide their first six new A321neos in their single-aisle fleet transformation,” said John L. Plueger, Chief Executive Officer and President of Air Lease Corporation.  “The A321neo will provide significantly expanded capabilities which will benefit China Airlines and its passengers far into the future." Air Lease Corporation Announces Lease Placement of Two New Airbus A330-900neo Aircraft with Delta Air Lines Air Lease Corporation announced 21 October long-term lease agreements with Delta Air Lines for two new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.  The first aircraft is scheduled to deliver to the airline in Fall 2020 and the second aircraft will deliver in early 2021 from ALC’s order book with Airbus.  “ALC is pleased to announce this significant lease placement with Delta Air Lines for two new A330-900neos and add this world-renowned airline to our current customer list,” said Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation.  John L. Plueger, Chief Executive Officer and President of Air Lease Corporation added, “As Delta and ALC are co-launch customers on the A330-900, we are proud to support Delta’s expanding requirement for these aircraft.” Allegiant Announces Aircraft Base in Nashville Allegiant announced 29 October plans to establish a base of operations at Nashville International Airport (BNA).  The Las Vegas-based company will invest $50 million to establish the new base, creating at least 66 new, high-wage jobs and housing two Airbus aircraft. The company, which focuses on linking travelers in small-to-medium cities to world-class leisure destinations, plans to begin its base operations in Nashville on February 13, 2020. The music city airport will become the airline's 19^th aircraft base. Boeing Appoints Stan Deal CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Ted Colbert CEO of Boeing Global Services The Boeing Company 22 October named Stan Deal to succeed Kevin McAllister as president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Ted Colbert to succeed Deal as president and CEO of Boeing Global Services, effective immediately. Vishwa Uddanwadiker is appointed to Colbert's former role as interim chief information officer and senior vice president of Information Technology & Data Analytics. Boeing Unveils Order for Two 787 Dreamliner Airplanes to One VIP Customer A VIP customer was behind the purchase of two ultra-long range Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes. The order, placed in August, has a list price value of US$564 million. The VIP customer has requested to be unidentified. James A. Forbes Named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Atlas Air Worldwide Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings announced 29 October that James A. (Jim) Forbes will be promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, effective January 1, 2020. Mr. Forbes will succeed John W. Dietrich as Chief Operating Officer. As previously announced, Mr. Dietrich will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2020.   In addition to his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide, Mr. Forbes will serve as Chief Operating Officer of the company’s subsidiaries Atlas Air, Inc. and Southern Air, Inc. Spirit Airlines signs MoU for up to 100 A320neo Family aircraft Airbus and Spirit Airlines have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding for the U.S.-based airline to acquire up to 100 A320neo Family aircraft. Spirit announced its intention to place firm orders for a mix of A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo to meet its future fleet requirements. “This new order represents another milestone for Spirit,” said Spirit Airlines’ President and CEO Ted Christie. “The additional aircraft will be used to support Spirit’s growth as we add new destinations and expand our network across the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean. We look forward to working with our valued partners at Airbus to finalize our agreement.” WestJet reports its second-highest ever third quarter net earnings of $119.4 million WestJet announced 28 October its third quarter results for 2019, with net earnings of $119.4 million, or $1.02 per fully diluted share compared with net earnings of $70.1 million, or $0.61 per fully diluted share reported in the third quarter of 2018, a year-over-year increase of 70.4 per cent and 67.2 per cent respectively. "We are very pleased with these remarkable results, achieving our highest ever third quarter load factor, second-highest ever third quarter net earnings and the third-highest quarterly net earnings in WestJet's history," said Ed Sims, WestJet President and CEO. "These results would not have been possible without the continued energy and dedication of all 14,000 WestJetters in delivering our award-winning brand of friendly and caring service through the busy summer period.
