American Airlines Successfully Consolidates Operations Into New York LaGuardia’s Terminal B
American Airlines customers can now enjoy an improved experience at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). All American flights are operating out of Terminal B. This consolidated operation means all customers will check in at Terminal B, and American will operate flights from each of the terminal’s four concourses. “I am humbled by the outpouring of support from every department within American,” said Loretta Bove, managing director – LGA Hub Operations. “And very proud of the work our team has done while caring for each other and our customers to make this move seamless.”
Boeing Forecasts Stable Growth and Funding Diversification for Aircraft Financing in 2018
Boeing anticipates diverse markets and participants will continue the upward trend in availability of efficient financing for record new aircraft deliveries in the next year. Now in its tenth year, the annual Boeing Current Aircraft Finance Market Outlook (CAFMO) evaluates and forecasts the sources of financing for new commercial airplane deliveries in the coming year and the industry’s overall delivery financing requirements for the next five years. The CAFMO also explores the trends within major funding sources and the potential impact on the broader market.
Boeing, Turkish Airlines Celebrate the Airline's First 777 Freighter
Boeing and Turkish Airlines on 7 December celebrated the delovery of the airline's first 777 Freighter. The aircraft and a second freighter on order will help the airline expand its cargo business. The 777 Freighter is based on the 777-200LR (Longer Range) passenger airplane and can fly 4,900 nautical miles (9,070 kilometers) with a full payload of 112 tons (102 metric tonnes or 102,000 kg).
Delta aims for bigger piece of the San Jose-India travel market
Delta Air Lines has expanded a codeshare agreement with Jet Airways, India’s second-largest airline, that includes Delta flights between San Jose and Los Angeles International (LAX). Delta says it is part of a larger deal making it possible for passengers in 12 Delta cities, including San Francisco, to fly between the United States and 17 Indian destinations on one ticket marked either Delta or Jet Airways regardless of the actual operator for a seamless travel experience.
Delta, WestJet sign MOU to form US-Canada transborder JV
Delta Airlines and WestJet have signed a preliminary MOU to form a joint venture (JV) that will include coordinated schedules and pricing on US-Canada transborder flights. Both carriers codeshare, but the JV will lead to expanded codesharing and “seamless … connections on the airlines’ extensive networks in the US and Canada,” the carriers said in a joint statement.
DOT axes proposed rules for ancillary revenue, baggage fee disclosure
In its decision, DOT specifically targeted a July 15, 2011 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that proposed to collect detailed revenue information regarding airline-imposed fees from air carriers meeting the definition of a large certificated air carrier. DOT said the rulemaking was being withdrawn “in light of comments we received.”
Pilatus PC-24 Awarded EASA and FAA Certification
Pilatus Aircraft received simultaneous approvals for its new PC-24 “super versatile” jet on December 7 from EASA and the FAA, including authorizations for flight into known icing and single-pilot operations. The $8.9 million (list price) 10-passenger aircraft is “the first ever Swiss business jet,” said the company, which added it was the culmination of eleven-and-a-half years’ work. Pilatus said that the first PC-24 will be handed over to PlaneSense in Stans this month. The aircraft will then be flown to the U.S. in January “for official delivery to the customer.”
United Airlines Announces New $3 Billion Share Repurchase Program
United Airlines announced on 7 December that the Board of Directors of its parent company, United Continental Holdings, Inc. (UAL), authorized a new $3 billion share repurchase program. This amount represents approximately 17 percent of the company's market capitalization based on the closing stock price on Dec. 6, 2017. The company is expected to complete its most recently authorized July 2016 $2 billion share repurchase program by the end of December 2017.
40% of U.S. Business Aircraft Fleet Won't Meet ADS-B Out Deadline
Forty percent of the U.S. business airplane fleet will not meet the Jan. 1, 2020 deadline for ADS-B Out, Duncan Aviation president Aaron Hilkeman said last week at the Corporate Jet Investor Miami conference. To achieve 100 percent compliance within the next 25 months, the current ADS-B installation rate of 1,758 per month for U.S.-based piston and turbine airplanes and helicopters would have to nearly double to 3,390 per month, which Hilkeman said is impossible.
