Airlines for America Projects Summer 2018 Air Travel to Rise 3.7 Percent to All-Time High Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, announced it expects a record 246.1 million passengers — an average of 2.68 million per day — to travel on U.S. airlines between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2018. This number is up 3.7 percent from last year’s record 237.3 million passengers. The nation’s carriers are adding 116,000 seats per day to accommodate the 96,000 additional daily passengers they expect to carry during this period. Allegiant Welcomes Its First-In-Fleet American Made Airbus A320 Allegiant this week welcomed its first U.S.-produced A320 aircraft from the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, Alabama. A team of Allegiant employees and executives from the company's headquarters in Las Vegas joined Airbus' leadership team at the production facility for a special ceremony to officially mark the delivery. The Airbus A320 is the 11th of 13 new A320 aircraft scheduled for purchase directly from Airbus, to be inducted into Allegiant's fleet this year. This delivery marks another step in Allegiant's planned transition to a single fleet type by the end of 2018. Allegiant currently has a total of 99 Airbus aircraft either in service or committed for future delivery. Atlas Air Worldwide Elects Jane H. Lute and Sheila A. Stamps to Board of Directors Atlas Air Worldwide announced the election of Jane H. Lute and Sheila A. Stamps to the company’s board of directors. Ms. Lute is a recognized leader in the area of cybersecurity and is President and Chief Executive Officer of SICPA North America. Ms. Stamps is an accomplished business leader and has extensive executive experience in finance, accounting and risk management. She is a director of CIT Group, Inc. and CIT Bank N.A.; Commissioner and Audit Committee Chair of the New York State Insurance Fund; and director of IES Abroad. Boeing 737 MAX 8 joins Sunwing Fleet; inaugural flight Seattle-Toronto brings first of four aircraft home Sunwing Airlines announced 25 May the delivery of their first brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The aircraft is the first of four new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft acquired by North America’s largest vertically integrated travel company as part of a lease agreement concluded with Air Lease Corporation (NYSE:AL) in late 2014. The $350 million deal also included the acquisition of two further Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The second Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft will be delivered the following week, with the remaining two 737 MAX planes anticipated to be delivered in 2019. Delta to serve Mumbai nonstop from the U.S. in 2019 Delta Air Lines will begin nonstop flights between the United States and Mumbai, India, next year, linking the U.S. with one of its strongest trading partners. The service is subject to government approval; full schedule details will be announced later this year. The announcement follows agreements between the U.S. and the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to address the issue of government subsidies provided to state-owned carriers in those nations. The framework created by the agreement allows Delta to move forward with service to India, a market long impacted by government-subsidized Middle Eastern airlines. Spirit AeroSystems Begins Construction of Global Digital Logistics Center Spirit AeroSystems broke ground on its state-of-the-art Global Digital Logistics Center that will increase storage capacity and part retrieval efficiency at its Wichita site. The new 150,000 square foot facility is being funded through a collaboration agreement between Spirit, the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County. When complete, the 70-foot-tall building will serve as a smart distribution center to better manage the rapid storage and retrieval of parts used in the assembly of large aerostructures. ST Aerospace Secures its First ACJ Maintenance Contract at San Antonio Facility ST Aerospace’s VIP Completion arm, AERIA Luxury Interiors (AERIA) secured its first Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) customer when it was awarded a 12-year maintenance support contract for its first ACJ, an A319.
