Airlines body says laptop ban affecting Middle East-U.S. traffic Restrictions on bringing large electronic devices into aircraft cabins on certain routes to the United States are affecting traffic between the Middle East and the United States, a global airlines' association IATA said . American Airlines to invest US$1.6 billion at Los Angeles International American Airlines has unveiled plans for a US$1.6 billion investment programme at Los Angeles International airport. The carrier has published a letter of intent setting out “the framework for negotiation of a new 15-year lease agreement”. The agreement would also pave the way for the carrier to receive additional gates “as they continue to grow their operation and add destinations”. Castlelake wraps up aviation fund at $1 billion Castlelake, L.P announced that it completed the final closing of Castlelake Aviation III Stable Yield, L.P., reaching its hard cap with $1 billion in capital commitments. The fund received commitments from a diverse base of endowments, foundations, family offices, sovereign wealth, insurance companies, financial institutions and pension funds based in the U.S., Europe and Asia. FAA to award US$527.8m in airport grants As part of its Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award US$527.8m in airport infrastructure grants to 584 gateways across the US, transportation secretary Elaine Chao announced recently. IATA: Overcapacity hurting US-Cuba market Success in Cuba is a “middle- to long-term” prospect for airlines, particularly for US carriers that launched service to Cuba after the market was reopened to US commercial flights last year, according to IATA regional VP-Americas Peter Cerda. The US-Cuba market also remains almost entirely a one-way market, with few Cubans traveling to the US, Cerda said during a media briefing June 4 on the sidelines of the IATA AGM in Cancun. Norwegian to modify operators for US-French Caribbean ops Norwegian will transition its United States-French Caribbean services to its Norwegian Air International on their resumption later this year. Southwest Airlines Begins Service At Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport With the arrival of Southwest Airlines Flight 2120 from Chicago Midway (MDW), ushered in a new era of air travel as it officially began service at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The carrier is offering eight daily nonstop flights, five between CVG and MDW and three between CVG and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). Southwest Airlines Pilots Support New Air Traffic Control Initiative Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association (SWAPA) president Captain Jon Weaks joined representatives from industry and labor in the East Room of the White House for President Trump's announcement of the Air Traffic Control Reform Initiative. SWAPA has long been in support of a next generation air traffic control system and is pleased to see the President make Air Traffic Control reform a top priority. US airlines still committed to emissions scheme: IATA chief US carriers are still committed to the Carbon Offset and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), says Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s director-general, on the eve of the association’s AGM in Cancun.
