Air India appoints SIA Engineering as Strategic Partner

Air India appointed SIA Engineering Company as Strategic Partner for the development of the carrier's Base Maintenance facility located in Bangalore to support it's growing fleet. SIAEC will work closely with Air India on the planning, construction, development and operationalisation of Air India’s BM facilities in Bangalore expected to operational in 2026. Air India Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, said “The collaboration with SIA Engineering Company will not only help Air India become more self-reliant for the maintenance of its own fleet but it also reiterates our commitment to strengthen India’s aviation infrastructure by boosting the growth of the country’s MRO industry.”

 

Akasa Air adds Jeddah as second international destination

Akasa Air announced the launch of twice weekly service from its Ahmedabad base to Jeddah effective from 20th July and Mumbai to Jeddah initially operating daily from 15 July increase to 12 times weekly from 21 July becoming the second international destination on its route network. Akasa Air Co-Founder and SVP International,  Neelu Khatri, said “We are thrilled to expand our presence in the Middle East with the addition of Jeddah to our growing network. We are extremely proud to witness our global footprint grow alongside our domestic services, with the addition of our second global destination within a short time. Jeddah’s unique character defined by its distinct heritage and prominence as a commercial hub has gained immense popularity amongst Indian travellers in the past few years, driving an exponential surge in the demand for air travel between the two countries”.

 

AviLease Leases two Boeing 737-8 Aircraft to Air India Express

AviLease announced the delivery of two Boeing 737-8 aircraft on lease to Air India Express. The aircraft are the first tranche of six aircraft that will be delivered in 2024. AviLease CEO Edward O’Byrne, said “We are delighted to deliver the first two of six new Boeing 737-8 aircraft to Air India Express. Our partnership with Air India continues to strengthen under Tata Group ownership and we are proud to support their fleet modernization program. We wish the Air India Express team continued success with their commitment to provide affordable and reliable air travel to its customers.”
