Air India Group completes merger between Air India and Vistara
Air India Group announced it has completed the operational integration and legal merger between Air India and Vistara, creating a full-service carrier of scale and marking a significant milestone as part of the ongoing, five-year transformation program titled “Vihaan.AI”.
Air India Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson, said, “The merger of Air India and Vistara completes the consolidation and restructuring phase of the Air India Group’s post-privatisation transformation journey, and is thus a significant milestone. Over the past two years, teams across the four airlines have worked closely together and with other stakeholders to ensure that the transition of people, assets, operations and, most importantly, customers, was as seamless as possible. Given the scale and scope of this project and its unprecedented nature, I would like to acknowledge the support received from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and others in making this merger possible. I would also like to acknowledge and thank our staff, who have undertaken this task whilst also driving comprehensive transformation across the business and supporting the induction of over 100 additional aircraft to the operating fleet. Finally, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the support and encouragement of our customers, for whom all the effort is ultimately intended, and to re-emphasise our commitment to creating a world-class global airline with an Indian heart.”

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and DRIIV (Delhi Research Implementation and Innovation) signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) . In a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at fostering innovation, enhancing and promotion of operational safety, and supporting sustainable growth within the Indian aviation sector. Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Shri. M. Suresh, said, “This partnership with DRIIV is a pivotal moment for us. By leveraging innovation and emerging technologies, we are not only ensuring the safety and efficiency of aviation operations but also contributing to the sustainability of the industry.”
IndiGo announces Bengaluru to direct route to Langkawi
IndiGo announced a new daily direct route between its Bengaluru hub and Langkawi, commencing from December 16, 2024. Langkawi will be IndiGo’s 36th international destination and 124th overall destination. The carried stated “The new exclusive route will expand IndiGo's global network and cater to the growing number of tourists from India to Malaysia.” IndiGo Head of Global Sales Mr. Vinay Malhotra, said, “We are delighted to further expand our network into Malaysia with the launch of direct flights from Bengaluru to Langkawi, our second destination in Malaysia, alongside Kuala Lumpur. With the inclusion of these flights, IndiGo will operate 14 weekly flights to Malaysia from 2 cities in India. Langkawi is one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia with its pristine beaches and lush rainforests, and the country's recent visa waiver for Indian citizens is bound to create greater demand.”
