Airbus appoints LUO Gang to lead new innovation centre in China Luo Gang has been appointed CEO of Airbus’ new innovation centre to be set up in China. A location will be announced at a later date. Gang’s first mission will be to set up the innovation centre to be fully operational when it officially opens later in 2017. In his role, Gang will report to Paul Eremenko, Airbus CTO. Atlas Air turns focus to Asian air cargo market Atlas Air announced ACMI placement of three 747-400 freighters with Hong Kong Air Cargo Carrier Limited, a unit of Hong Kong airlines. The three aircraft will be operated by Atlas Air and will fly on behalf of Hong Kong air cargo. The first aircraft will enter service in September 2017 and will serve routes between Asia and United States while the second and third aircraft are expected to commence operation during 2018 BOC Aviation Orders 10 New Boeing 737 MAX 10 Aircraft BOC Aviation Limited announced 3 August that it has placed an order for 10 new Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, following the announcement on 19 June 2017 by Boeing of a memorandum of understanding signed at the Paris Air Show. BOC Aviation’s cumulative outstanding orders, purchases and deliveries to date for Boeing aircraft total 348 aircraft, including 84 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft. China Aircraft Leasing Mulls Widebodies as Asia Demand Rises China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Ltd. is looking to add more widebody aircraft to its fleet as the Hong Kong-based lessor races to tap surging demand from airlines in the Asia-Pacific region. Chief Executive Officer Poon Ho Man said “We will look at models with broad market recognition. Boeing’s 787 and Airbus 350 are some of the most successful widebodies.” UAC will finance $8.29M of Russian-Chinese aircraft R&D In 2017, UAC will receive additional budgetary financing of 500 million rubles ($8.29 million) that will be used for the research and development of a Russian-Chinese wide-body long-haul aircraft, according to Russia's Interfaks. The financing of the development will be continued in 2018-2020. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is considering the issue of allocating additional funding for the joint Chinese-Russian aircraft and MC-21.
