Cathay Pacific Expands European Network
Cathay Pacific announce that it will be launching direct flights from its Hong Kong Hub to Munich for the very first time as well as returning to Brussels in summer 2025, operating four times weekly from 16th June 2025 and 3 August 2025 respectively, using three class Airbus A350-900 aircraft. In summer 2025, Cathay Pacific will be operating up to 93 return passenger flights per week to Europe, up from 78 flights per week. Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said: “We are very excited to be adding Munich to our network for the very first time as well as returning to Brussels next year, making these our 10th and 11th destinations in Europe, respectively. Hong Kong is a world-class international financial, commercial and aviation hub, and these flights will provide our customers with a direct connection between our home city and two of Europe’s important centres. Cathay Pacific has been flying non-stop to Europe for over four decades and we remain very committed to this important market. In addition to launching these two routes, we are delighted to be adding more flights on our other European routes next summer, providing even greater choice and convenience for our customers travelling between Hong Kong and the continent.”
Hong Kong international airport three-runway system commissioned
The Three-runway System (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) was commissioned 28 November, marking a new milestone in Hong Kong’s hub development. All three runways provide the expanded capacity for HKIA to further strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a major international aviation hub. HKIA’s target is to serve 120 million passengers and handle 10 million tonnes of cargo annually in about 10 years from now. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) Chairman, Fred Lam said “The 3RS will significantly enhance the overall capacity of the airport, further expanding our extensive air traffic network and consolidating our position as an international aviation hub. The commissioning of the 3RS will provide impetus for the Airport City development and support Hong Kong's economic growth. Leveraging Hong Kong's unique strengths, the Airport City will be a world-leading new landmark, attracting visitors from all around the world and driving Hong Kong’s economic development.”
Star Alliance Unveils its First Lounge in Asia at Guangzhou
Star Alliance has opened its first lounge in Asia at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) Terminal 1, in Guangzhou, China. The lounge will be available to First and Business class passengers, and Star Alliance Gold status customers on member airline flights. Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias stated “Lounges are a critical component for the effortless travel experience we aim to provide to our member airline passengers. As a key strategic hub in Asia, Guangzhou serves as an important gateway for our guests. We are excited to inaugurate our first lounge in Asia, given the significance of the continent to aviation growth today and in the years to come.”
TUI Airways to lease 14 14 Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft from BOC Aviation
BOC Aviation announced that it has entered into a lease transaction involving 14 Boeing 737-8 aircraft , powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines with TUI Airways, for delivery in 2025 and 2026. BOC Aviation Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Steven Townend said “With this financing we are once more working with our existing customer, TUI, as it builds its fleet of new generation aircraft. With the delivery of these aircraft anticipated over the next two years, this transaction will contribute to our investment and revenue pipelines.”
