Air India places historic aircraft order with Airbus and Boeing

Air India part of the Tata Sons conglomerate announced on 14th February that it has signed letters of intent (LOI) with Airbus and Boeing to acquire 490 aircraft plus 380 options with the combined transaction estimated at $75 billion at list prices . The order comprises 40 Airbus A350s, 20 Boeing 787s and 10 Boeing 777-9s widebody aircraft, as well as 210 Airbus A320/321 Neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The A350 aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce engines, and the B777/787s by engines from GE Aerospace.

Air India has CFM International LEAP engines for its A320neo/B737 MAX order. The first of the new aircraft will enter service in late-2023, as the carrier is to take six Airbus A350-900s which were originally allocated to Aeroflot, before sanctions prevented further deliveries to the Russian flag-carrier, as part of an agreement for 40 A350s unveiled by the carrier, with the bulk to arrive from mid-2025 onwards.  In the interim, Air India has commenced taking delivery of 11 leased B777-200LR’s and Boeing 777-300ER’s  and 25 A320neo-family aircraft on the open market at the end of this year to accelerate its fleet and network expansion.

IndiGo announces Dharamshala as its 104th destination

IndiGo announced the launch of Dharamshala, its 78th domestic destination, marking the airline’s entry in Himachal Pradesh and 104th city on its route network. The airline is set to commence operations between Delhi-Dharamshala effective from 26th March. IndiGo Head of Global Sales, Mr. Vinay Malhotra, said, “We are pleased to announce Dharamshala, as the 78th domestic destination in the 6E network. This will be IndiGo’s maiden destination in Himachal Pradesh. We have witnessed strong demand for connectivity to Himachal Pradesh since the offset of Covid-19 as more and more people are travelling to hills during summer months and for workations. The direct flights between Delhi-Dharamshala, will connect Himachal Pradesh to the rest of the country and international destinations in Asia, Middle East, and Europe.”

Tata Boeing Aerospace Ships First Vertical Fin Structure For Boeing 737

Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has shipped the first vertical fin structure for the Boeing 737 aircraft from its state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad. The vertical fin will be delivered to the Boeing manufacturing facility in Renton, WA, for integration into Boeing 737 production line. Boeing India President Salil Gupte, said “Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited is an example of Boeing’s commitment towards co-development of integrated systems in aerospace and defence in India for the world, and a reflection of the country’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat capabilities.”
