Land identified for solar panels at Chennai airport The Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to install solar panels near the main runway to reduce the use of power from the grid at Chennai airport. A tender, which was issued last year, has been given to a contractor and the process is on to install the panels on an 8.58-acre land, identified in the northern corner of the main runway, close to the Pallavaram side, said an official. Panels will generate around 6.5MWp (Mega Watt peak, a unit of measuring solar power) power which will be connected to the grid. The project is estimated to cost Rs 44crore and is part of the AAI’s ‘Go Green’ initiative, which includes installation of LED lights at the terminals and airfield. DGCA de-registers 83 Jet Airways' aircraft including 2 B777s, 6 A330s

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has de-registered 83 aircraft of Jet Airways to date including six Airbus A330s and two Boeing B777s. Latest data shows DGCA has de-registered 67 aircraft of Boeing 737 family including the MAX type, eight ATRs, two B777 and six A330s. The regulator is also considering requests for de-registration of 11 more aircraft. First UDAN flight takes off from Pune The first flight under the Union government's regional connectivity scheme (RCS), popularly known an UDAN, took off from the city airport last Wednesday. The Alliance Air flight will operate six days a week, except on Tuesdays, and connect Pune to Belagavi and Bengaluru. Hundreds sign up for direct Mumbai-Birmingham flight in UK An online petition by a mayoral authority in the UK calling for a direct flight between India's financial capital Mumbai with Britain's second largest city Birmingham has attracted hundreds of signatures within days. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) issued the petition titled "We need a direct flight to Mumbai from Birmingham" on Change.Org. Kochi airport commissions second substation Further enhancing its solar-power banking facilities, the Cochin International Airport Limited (Cial) commissioned its second substation on Wednesday. A parallel 110 Kv electrical substation for exporting the power generated by its eight solar plants to the Kerala State Electricity Board’s grid was inaugurated by Cial managing director V J Kurian. The substation was constructed at a cost of Rs 16 crore. SpiceJet to start daily Mumbai-Jeddah flight from 5 July SpiceJet announced that it will start a daily non-stop flight on Mumbai-Jeddah sector from 5 July The airline said it will also start six new domestic flights from May 20 on the following sectors: Mumbai-Dehradun-Mumabi, Mumbai-Guwahati-Mumbai and Guwahati-Bagdogra-Guwahati. "Mumbai is the third destination after Hyderabad and Kozhikode which is being connected by SpiceJet with the pilgrim city of Jeddah," SpiceJet said in a statement.
