British Airways doubles India flights to 20 per week
British Airways has doubled its weekly India flights from 10 to 20 with the UK moving the country to the amber list followed by India allowing more flights between the two countries. British Airways head of sales for South Asia, Middle East and Africa Moran Birger said: “It is wonderful to see connections between India and London being restored after months of uncertainty caused by the global pandemic. These additional new flights will allow our Indian customers, who have waited so patiently, to reunite with their loved ones. The flights also provide new travel options for Indian students wishing to travel to the UK and beyond for further studies, ahead of the start of a new academic year.”
Flybig launches second flight under UDAN in Arunachal Pradesh
A flight service connecting Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh with Guwahati and operated by Flybig under the Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN commenced at Tezu airport in Lohit district last Thursday. The service will operate four times weekly using ATR72-500 aircraft.
IndiGo announces Gwalior as its 70th domestic destination
IndiGo announced Gwalior as its 70th domestic destination. The airline will operate ATR72-600 aircraft on the new route from Gwalior to Delhi and Indore from 1st September. In a statement, the airline said that direct connection with Gwalior will also strengthen the city's overall air accessibility across India through the '6E network'.
IndiGo augments regional connectivity; commences operations from Jabalpur
IndiGo has commenced operations from Jabalpur in line with its vision to further strengthen regional connectivity. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, IndiGo, said, “We are pleased to launch our flight operations from Jabalpur, which marks the fructification of our plan to connect seven regional destinations on 6E network this year. These direct connections will not only enhance trade and commerce, but also promote tourism in Jabalpur, especially at this time when Indians are increasingly looking towards domestic vacations to rejuvenate and destress. Jabalpur has Shiva, making it a perfect hub for domestic tourism.”
Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) shows growth in domestic traffic
The Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has shown a massive growth in its domestic traffic with both arrivals and departures picking up pace in the first fortnight of August as compared to the same periods of June and July, with gradual re-opening of airports by various states and starting of flight services.
New airports being constructed in India at unprecedented speed: PM Modi
The speed with which new airports are being constructed and the UDAN scheme is covering the far-flung areas of the country is unprecedented, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech. The Centre has accorded in-principle approval for setting up of 21 greenfield airports across the country of which six have been constructed and operationalised . The Indian government has accorded in-principle approval for setting up of 21 greenfield airports across the country: Mopa in Goa; Navi Mumbai, Sindhudurg and Shirdi in Maharashtra; Bijapur, Hassan, Kalaburagi and Shimoga in Karnataka; Dabra (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh; Kushinagar and Jewar (Noida) in Uttar Pradesh; Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat; Karaikal in Puducherry; Dagadarthi, Bhogapuram and Orvakal (Kurnool) in Andhra Pradesh; Durgapur in West Bengal; Pakyong in Sikkim; Kannur in Kerala; Hollongi (Itanagar) in Arunachal Pradesh.
