AAI signs JV Agreement with State Government for development of a Greenfield airport in Nagchala
The Airports Authority of India signed a Joint Venture Agreement on 25th April,2022 with Government of Himachal Pradesh for development of a Greenfield airport in Nagchala, near Mandi District. The proposed airport will be developed through a Joint Venture Company Wherein Government of HP will hold 51% equity and remaining 49% per cent equity will be held by AAI. The airport shall have a unidirectional runway capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft. There are three airports i.e. Shimla, Kullu, & Kangra and 5 heliports i.e. Kangnidhar, Shimla, Rampur, Baddi, and SASE(Manali) in Himachal Pradesh that are developed or being developed which would give a massive boost to tourism industry of the state once completed.
Air France-KLM and IndiGo launch code-share agreement
After the lifting of the Air Bubble Agreement in India and to the necessary governmental approval, Air France-KLM and IndiGo have implemented the extensive codeshare agreement announced in December 2021. With this partnership, Air France and KLM will ultimately offer their passengers access to 30 new Indian destinations and Air France and KLM will open up their global network of over 300 destinations to IndiGo passengers, with more than 120 destinations in Europe and about 50 in the Americas. IndiGo Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer Sanjay Kumar said, “We are pleased to commence the partnership with one of the strongest European airline groups, Air France-KLM. This codeshare is in line with our mission to provide air connectivity and affordable fares across India and to international destinations. As this summer sees a huge interest in international travel after a hiatus of two years, the codeshare will extend our on-time, affordable, courteous and hassle-free travel experience across 30 incredible Indian destinations to Air France-KLM customers.”
BLR Airport rounds up FY 2022 with Record Growth in Cargo Volumes
The Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) recorded its highest-ever cargo tonnage in Financial Year (FY) 2022, despite challenging circumstances due to multiple Covid waves. BLR Airport processed an all-time high tonnage for a fiscal year since Airport Opening Day (AOD) of 411,513 Metric Tonnes (MT) of cargo, recording a growth of 26% as against 326,643MT in FY 2021. International cargo recorded a 31.1% growth, 271,988MT processed, as compared to 207,518 MT in FY 2021. Domestic cargo grew at 17%, with 139,525MT versus 119,125MT in FY 2021. Perishable cargo has been one of the major growth drivers for BLR Airport. It is the No.1 airport in the country for handling perishables, estimated to account for 31% of India’s total perishable shipments. Bangalore International Airport MD & CEO Hari Marar stated “Our focus on driving operational efficiencies coupled with a resilient ecosystem has enabled us to end FY 2022 on a record high both in terms of cargo and passenger volumes. It reflects our commitment to serving the industry and our customers through sustained innovations and technological advancements.”
IndiGo appoints Pieter Elbers Chief Executive Officer, Rono Dutta retires
The Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) announced the appointment of Pieter Elbers as Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approvals. He will join IndiGo on or before 1 1st October 2022. He succeeds Mr Ronojoy Dutta who has decided to retire on 30 September 2022, after guiding IndiGo through the turbulent Covid period. Commending his service, Mr Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo said, “The Board of Directors and I would like to thank Rono for effectively leading our business for almost four years with a steady hand through what has been the most turbulent period in the airline’s history and aviation globally”
