Airbus eyes fastest growing aircraft market in India Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said “We have entered an era of mass manufacturing. This year we are ready to deliver 880 to 890 aircraft. "We are always looking for opportunities and always see a market for our aircraft. We are trying to be long-term oriented for India, which is the fastest growing market and there is a lot of demand." Airbus dominates the single-aisle aircraft in the country with IndiGo, GoAir, Air India, Vistara and AirAsia India operating its aircraft. Ajay Singh joins IATA Board of Governors Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, has been appointed on the Board of Governors (BoG) of the prestigious International Air Transport Association (IATA) for a three-year term effective from the conclusion of the 75th IATA AGM in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Mr. Singh will be the only Indian on the Board of Governors of IATA, the world’s biggest airline grouping. IATA represents some 290 airlines comprising 82% of global air traffic and plays a key role in helping formulate global policies on critical aviation-related issues. SpiceJet became the first Indian LCC to join IATA as a member in March 2019. Mr. Singh will participate in providing policy directives and guidance to IATA industry committees and to their subsidiary bodies. BOC Aviation Places Three Boeing 737-800 NG Aircraft With SpiceJet BOC Aviation announced 24 May the placement of three Boeing B737-800 NG aircraft with Indian carrier SpiceJet, all of which have been delivered in May 2019. The aircraft are powered by CFM56 engines. DIAL working with stakeholders to further improve runway occupancy time Delhi airport operator DIAL is working with stakeholders to further improve runway occupancy time which will help in dealing with capacity constraints at the country's busiest aerodrome. Generally, Runway Occupancy Time (ROT) is the time taken by a departing or arriving aircraft to turnoff from the runway. An Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said the ROT at Delhi airport and other major aerodromes have improved. India, China to account for nearly half of air passenger growth in two decades, says IATA India and China are projected to account for nearly half of the air passenger growth worldwide over the next two decades, with travellers coming from all walks of life, according to IATA. Brian Pearce, Chief Economist at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), said the negative growth in the Indian market was temporary and that the market would expand as Indians want to travel more. MTU Maintenance signs exclusive CFM56-5B contract with GoAir MTU Maintenance has signed an exclusive four-year CFM56-5B contract with GoAir, a low-fare carrier based in Mumbai, India. The contract covers the maintenance, repair and overhaul as well as spare engine support and on-site services for the CFM56-5B engines powering the airline’s 17 A320 aircraft. State-run AAI pitches for adding its airports for foreign flights The state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) wants more of its airports included as point of call in the bilateral discussion for traffic rights with countries in the Middle-East and Southeast Asia. Out of the 27 Indian cities from where international operations are currently being carried out, five cities -- Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi account for about 70% traffic. Vistara Leases Six Aircraft from BOC Aviation Vistara announced 24 May the lease of an additional six aircraft from BOC Aviation to accelerate its growth in the domestic market. As part of the agreement, Vistara has leased four Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft to be delivered in May 2019 and two Airbus A320neo powered by CFM LEAP 1A engines, scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2019.
