Authority Advocates using Intelligent 3D Modelling for new Guwahati International Airport’s Terminal
With a strong focus on innovation and use of advanced technology, Airport Authority of India (AAI) – has identified BIM (Building Information Modeling) as the design and planning platform for construction of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. For uninitiated, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. The new 90,000 Sqmts terminal, will have 64 check-in counters, 20 self-check-in desks, eight Immigration counters, eight custom counters, six arrival carousels, 10 escalators, 25 elevators, 16 self-baggage drop counters and 20 aircraft parking bays.
Facial recognition system trial to begin at Delhi airport's T3 terminal
The Delhi airport stated that it will start a three-month trial of biometric facial recognition entry system for domestic passengers of Vistara airline at Terminal 3 from 6th September. "With this technology, passengers' entry would be automatically processed based on facial recognition system at all check points, including airport entry, entry into security checks, and aircraft boarding," the GMR-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) in a statement.
HAL-built trainer aircraft HTT-40 clears crucial flight test successfully
Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has underlined its growing capability to design and develop fixed-wing aircraft by steering its home grown Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) basic trainer to the brink of final flight clearance. In flight-testing last Saturday in Bengaluru, HAL’s test pilots threw the HTT-40 into multiple spins and, each time, the trainer returned to level flight smoothly. In so doing, the HTT-40 cleared the so-called “six-turn spin test”, regarded as the ultimate and most difficult test for a trainer aircraft.
India's Domestic Air Passenger Traffic Beats Global Trend, Up By 8.9 Per Cent in July: IATA
Indian domestic air passenger market clocked an 8.9 per cent growth in July this year when compared to the same month last year, international airlines body IATA said on Friday. Moreover, India's July RPK (Revenue Passenger Kilometre) growth at 8.9 per cent was higher than what was observed in June this year at 8.2 per cent. On India, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in its analysis, "The market has not yet returned to the double-digit growth rates that were the norm in the past 4-5 years." "Yet it seems to be adjusting well to the disruption caused by the demise of Jet Airways; capacity is also back on track (7.1 per cent year-on-year in July vs 3.4 per cent in June),"
SpiceJet to start service to Chennai, Vijayawada
SpiceJet has agreed to start a new service from Chennai to Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada with effect from 1st November. The airline has agreed to operate the service following repeated pleas by the AP Air Travellers’ Association (APATA).
