AerCap Adds TAAG Angola Airlines as New Client
AerCap has entered into a sale and leaseback agreement with TAAG Angola Airlines for one new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, scheduled for delivery in February 2025. This agreement marks a significant step in TAAG’s fleet modernisation program, enabling the airline to expand its network across Africa, Europe, and Asia with the highly fuel-efficient 787. AerCap CEO Aengus Kelly stated, “We are pleased to welcome TAAG Angola Airlines as a new customer and to be the first lessor to introduce the 787 to their fleet. This partnership underscores our commitment to supporting airlines in meeting growing customer demand.”
DAE Signs Agreement to Acquire Nordic Aviation Capital
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) announced the acquisition of Irish-based lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC). While the terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, NAC’s fleet includes 252 owned and committed assets leased to approximately 60 airline customers in 40 countries. DAE CEO Firoz Tarapore expressed his optimism, stating, “This transaction enhances our platform with NAC’s capabilities, complementary market presence, and experienced team. It will allow us to offer more cost-effective solutions to a larger group of customers.”
Southwest Airlines Announces Sale and Leaseback Deal With BBAM
Southwest Airlines has finalised a sale and leaseback agreement with Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management (BBAM) for 36 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. BBAM will now own these aircraft and lease them back to Southwest through the Incline Aviation III investment fund, with lease terms ranging from 26 to 37 months. This transaction forms a critical part of Southwest’s 'Southwest. Even Better.' transformation plan, unveiled in September 2024, aims to enhance the airline’s operational and financial agility.
