Air India connects Delhi Hub and Dhaka
Air India announced the launch of a new four times weekly service between its Delhi Hub and Dhaka (Bangladesh) effective from 15 September operated by Airbus A320 aircraft. The route will supplement its existing service from its Kolkata base and to meet increased demand for international travel to Dhaka on the back of Bangladesh’s rapid economic growth and overall development.
IndiGo launches new Mumbai to Nairobi route
IndiGo commenced new daily direct flights between Mumbai and Nairobi, effect from 5 August t 5, as the 27th international and 105th overall destination, representing a significant step in the airline's international expansion strategy as its maiden foray into the African subcontinent. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said, “We are thrilled to commence our maiden flight between Mumbai and Nairobi, symbolising our arrival in the African subcontinent. First time for IndiGo touching the African soil and we could not have chosen a better location to do so. Kenya, known for its ethereal wildlife beauty and historical landmarks, is intent on enhancing its economic growth through tourism, cultural exchange, and collaboration in various fields. This aligns with our overall vision of providing accessibility and connecting people with places. This new route further enhances connectivity in the region as envisioned in IndiGo’s international growth strategy.”
Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) reports record cargo growth
Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru announced it has maintained its position as the leading airport for exporting perishable cargo in India. The Airport witnessed growth in the export of perishable cargo, handling a record tonnage of 53,751 metric tonnes (MT) in 2022-2023 (FY23). This represents a 3% increase compared to prior year, with strong growth in floriculture/flowers, fresh fruit/vegetables, and poultry segments. Bangalore International Airport Ltd Chief Strategy and Development Officer, Satyaki Raghunath said “BLR Airport has played a pivotal role as one of India’s leading air cargo EXIM contributors, through its exceptional volume shares across both Indian and South Indian airports. As India's leading airport for handling perishable cargo for the third consecutive year, we strive to serve as a vital gateway in the facilitation of seamless export operations and enabling businesses to connect with global markets from Bengaluru."
Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurates 4th Runway at Delhi Airport
The Honourable Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, unveiled the much-awaited 4th Runway and elevated dual Eastern Cross Taxiways at Delhi Airport. The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the Phase 3A expansion project of Delhi Airport, becoming India’s only airport to have four operational runways. The Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia said “India is at an inflection point in her long history of civil aviation. Under the leadership of Hon’ Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi today civil aviation is a key enabler in the rise of country's economic power. India is aiming high, it is aiming to touch the sky. Delhi Airport under the vision of the GMR Group is creating new crests. From about 70 mn passengers per year as the biggest airport in India, the Delhi Airport will soon become one of the largest airports in the world at 109 mn passengers per year."
